Just Ask
 
Dr. Misner welcomes Any Lopata to the podcast to share about his new book Just Ask: Why Seeking Support Is Your Greatest Strength. There are three reasons people hesitate to ask for help: (1) We want to look strong; (2) We don’t want to be a burden; (3) We assume. Andy outlines a strategic approach to asking for help and emphasizes the importance of being open to support of different kinds from across your whole network. Remember to say “thank you” and to look for ways you can help others in your network.

It has been demonstrated repeatedly over BNI's 36 years of existence that BNI chapters that have balanced, strong contact spheres will enjoy more membership stability (long-lasting relationships with deeper trust and better referrals passed), and will pass more business to each other as recorded in Thank You for Closed Business. When we talk about growth in BNI, the goal is not growth of the Chapter; chapter growth  is the tool. The goal is growth in the closed business each member receives. We invite you to use the tools below to help you to sponsor one new member to your team of referral partners.

Use to identify hot open seats in your chapter (top 8 are commonly filled in each contact sphere). Begin asking yourself, "Who do I know that works in open classifications?"

Visitor Prospect Worksheet 
 
Now that you know which seats are open in your chapter, use the Visitor Prospect Worksheet to write down everyone you know who works in the open classifications. Start with just writing down the classification and name. You can come back later to fill in contact details.

Use this guide to help you successfully sponsor new referral partners to your team. Guide includes help with finding people to invite, key steps for success, and scripts to use to help you successfully invite someone in a way that helps them see the value they will receive for their time. Remember, we only invite them to visit and to make connections before the meeting.

When you connect the people you know outside of BNI to the people you know in your BNI chapter, you bring both people the gift of valuable connections. These connections can help them succeed at reaching their goals or solve a problem. Some will become members of your chapter. Others won't. On average, visitors that don't join but have a great experience will spend $1500 with chapter members. Invite those you know who aren't in BNI to visit to make meaningful connections.
