Do you want to stay top-of-mind with your contacts so when a referral opportunity comes up, they think of you and send you the referral? The key is to become a Master Connector. The stronger the connections you make, the bigger the impact you will have. Here are four secrets to becoming a Master Connector.

Grow Your Network
 
As you make new connections your network becomes more valuable. It is especially important that you deepen these connections by helping them to achieve their goals and solve their problems.

Stop Selling and Start Connecting 
 
Showing interest in people and seeking to help them triggers the law of reciprocity. Avoid the networking disconnect and cultivate relationships instead of hunting for the sale when attending networking events.

Invest in Relationships
 
It's not what you know or who you know. It's how well you know each other that counts. Take time to learn about the other person. Schedule a 1-to-1. Be interested in them. In networking, remember, you have two ears and one mouth. It is wise to use them proportionally.

Learn the Language of Referrals 
 
Finding referrals for others and helping them do the same for you uses different language than you use for sales. Learn to listen for and teach your partners to listen for referral opportunities through PLANNING, PROUD, or UNHAPPY statements that indicate a referral opportunity exists.

When you become a Master Connector, you become someone known for looking out for the interest of others and helping them solve their problems or reach their goals. This builds their trust in you and their desire to help you. Zig Ziglar taught, "the way to get what you want is to help enough other people get what they want."

"Our BNI chapter normally meets in person and although many members have found meeting virtually difficult, I have found a silver lining in our virtual meetings. Networking in our in-person meetings we have a tendency to gather into small groups, visiting with the same group each week. Our virtual meeting on the other hand has given me a chance to visit with those members that I don’t take the opportunity to visit with. Through the break-out rooms I now have the pleasure of visiting with a variety of my business partners. I have loved the virtual meetings and these break-out room opportunities!"
